"We invite everyone in Edmonton & Area
from all churches and denominations to join with us
on May 23rd as we join with the world."
Join with us in Edmonton, Alberta as we unite with over 200 nations of the world on Pentecost Sunday May 23 for the 2010 Global Day of Prayer.
The theme this year is "United in Christ" and we acknowledge our strength and the Lord's pleasure that comes from unity in the body of Christ.
Jesus prayed for unity for all believers in John 17: "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me.." Also Psalm 133 states, "How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!"
In light of this theme, we have three strands this year that join together:
1. Representing the Global part of the Global Day of Prayer, we will be having pastors and leaders from multicultural churches in Edmonton & Area pray for world issues. These multicultural churches will likely include Portuguese, African, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino and Korean congregations.
2. Representing the Prayer part of Global Day of Prayer, we will be having leaders and ministers from different prayer/ministry organizations in the Edmonton region lead us in prayer for Alberta, for Edmonton and for other local issues. These ministries include House of Prayer Edmonton, "Watch and Pray Edmonton", Sonfire, and Parkland Prayer.
3. Representing our theme of "United in Christ" we will be highlighting a major youth outreach called Rock the River Tour that is happening in Edmonton at Telus Field on August 28, 2010 (see www.BillyGraham.org/rocktheriver ). This event is sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and already over 120 churches from the Edmonton region are joining together in unity for this event to help bring in the precious harvest of souls.
As another expression of unity, worship will include the Edmonton Chinese Christian Choir which has over 25 voices joining together from different Chinese churches to praise the Lord.
This Global Day of Prayer began in the year 2000 as a vision to transform Africa, where, in the subsequent years, prayer events have filled stadiums with over 22 million Africans participating in 2004. In 2008, the event continued to expand globally and churches and Christians from six continents and 214 countries were involved. In 2009 all 220 nations of the world participated.
In Edmonton & Area, the 2010 Global Day of Prayer, for all denominations, now in its sixth year, is to be held at Calvary Community Church, 8704 Mill Woods Road, Edmonton ( for directions click on the link http://www.calvarycommunity.ca/how-to-find-us/ ).
